Komitas: Earth and Song
Designing and starting the implementation of "Komitas: Earth and Song” community art project in the village of Vardablur, Gyulagarak community, ICA pursues a long-term goal. To revive the story related to Komitas in the place where he wrote the most famous version of "Lori Plow Song", to use art education and folk art to revive that legend to produce energy and revitalize Vardablur social life and economy.
Komitas, Lori plow song, Vardablur. The location becomes a place with the person, when his or her breath "mixes" with that location. For Komitas's life, this judgment is three times true: the geography of his life is a witness. The location of birth (Kyotahya) and the location of death (Paris), not counting when the one and the other was not bound by his will, but in one case had a profound effect on the course of his life (pottery), and in the other case there was a consequence of that life (genocide), in all other cases, his relocations were due to the circumstances of his musical education and training, folklore research and creative work. And wherever he was, he left indelible traces, myths and stories were created around that presence, and most importantly, the song rose from the earth, as if the breath of that land, as if the living connection of the men and nature, turning that location to the place.
