Mari Firkatian & Colin Mcmullan։ Exploring our shared roots

Exploring Our Shared Roots

Mari Firkatian and Colin McMullan, current residents at Nest Artists Residency and Community Center are collaborating on a socially-engaged art project about indigenous identities on the lands of the Middle East and Lower Caucasus. The collaborators seek your participation in this project, to share the collective memories of genocide and survivance (a word coined by Ojibwe author Gerald Vizenor, to reflect the linked ideas of survival and resistance).

The cultural survival struggles of many disparate peoples throughout the world is a common feature of our humanity. The project invites you to share the stories of your ancestors' relationships to specific lands, as expressed in family recipes and foods, such as wild edible plants.
