For us, education, science, and production are interconnected and organized as one global process. The ICA School, the Project and Research Labs, the exhibition hall and the library, the studios, and the Nest Art Residency all aim at contributing to the development of the art economy in Armenia by implementing various programs, providing technical facilities and training for artists, art critics, and curators, while producing researches at the crossroads of art, culture, humanities and social sciences, as well as designing art collections, exhibitions, and creative platforms. Relying on the context-sensitive and context-creating nature of contemporary art, the ICA team plays the role of a conveyor, seeking to share the power of art to bring about change not only in the field of art but also in solving the social, cultural, and political issues faced by Armenia. ) [1] => Array ( [node_id] => 3 [node_parent] => 0 [node_url] => 3 [node_level] => 0 [node_visible] => 1 [node_num] => 12 [node_template] => simple [node_creation_date] => 2022-03-14 23:22:20 [node_modify_date] => 2023-01-30 12:06:44 [node_user] => 1 [node_clicks] => 0 [node_published] => 0 [node_constant] => 1 [nl_node] => 3 [nl_lang] => 1 [nl_title] => Contacts [nl_description] => 47 Avet Avetisyan St, Yerevan, Armenia +374 33 270210 [email protected] Instagram: icayerevan Facebook: icayerevan LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/institute-for-contemporary-art-yerevan ) [2] => Array ( [node_id] => 4 [node_parent] => 0 [node_url] => school [node_level] => 0 [node_visible] => 1 [node_num] => 11 [node_template] => simple [node_creation_date] => 2022-03-14 23:23:23 [node_modify_date] => 2023-03-05 16:08:09 [node_user] => 1 [node_clicks] => 0 [node_published] => 0 [node_constant] => 1 [nl_node] => 4 [nl_lang] => 1 [nl_title] => School [nl_description] => The Critical and Curatorial Studies School offers the students an opportunity to get a hands-on/learn by doing’ knowledge and experience in the main philosophical, political, critical and art theories. Context

The School of Emergencies initiated by Chto Delat International is a transdisciplinary and translocal  school for artists, writers, researchers and activists which deals with topics of catastrophes and survival, emergencies and miracles, last times and new kinship. This educational program was started as a response to the outbreak of Russian-Ukraine full scale war in 2022, and it also deals with the unfolding all-encompassing crisis affecting every area of our lives.

The school is coming to Yerevan, in the midst of the humanitarian catastrophes in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh with its incomprehensible consequences for Armenia and the region and it becomes a gesture of solidarity with the current tragedy of Armenian people.

The Yerevan iteration will be built around an intensive and convivial process of collective learning and doings. All together - the school participants, curators, mentors and invited teachers are looking for a new artistic language which is capable of grasping the situation of a more and more absurd and brutal world.

This time the program of the school will develop the score of the learning play* based on the process of composing a common lexicon of emergencies. We plan to use a collective text writing practice in many languages and translations, to implement a device of shadow theater and all participants of the school are welcomed to contribute to the group exhibition which will be transformed during the process of the realization of the school program.

What could you learn in this program?

- to make art in collective interactions

- develop together with mentors and curators your exhibition project and show it at the show at ICA in December 2023.

- to be open for improvisation

- to get into the histories and different discourses of ecology, philosophy of the repair and catastrophes, and much more

- develop your performative skills and learn the abilities of your body

- develop your writing skills making short entry for the lexicon

-sharing space, time, bread and wine - to be involved in a production of the performance with experienced and acclaimed director and choreographer

Please apply for the participation till October 30th by filling the form.

*About the Learning play method:

The learning play method comes from the development of the practices of “Lehrstücke”, whose theoretical foundations were laid by Bertolt Brecht and which later developed widely in various practices of forum theater. This method consists of taking a position in dialogue and conflict with other positions that deal with a particular problem. We also suggest not relying only on verbal articulation, but to try to find one's position through body language, its movements and interactions in exchange with other bodies. We also suggest that school participants could create their lexicon entries in a critical interaction with the artificial intelligence program ChatGPT.
