Regeneration: Perspectives from the Frontline

The opening of the exhibition “Regeneration: Perspectives from the Frontline” will take place at the National Gallery of Armenia on August 29 at 5:00 PM.

About the Exhibition

What does it mean to regenerate after destruction? Can transformation produce continuity, or does every new beginning necessarily entail a loss of what came before?

Regeneration: Perspectives from the Frontline brings together seven emerging Armenian artists whose practices engage with the profound transformations taking place in Armenia today. Addressing ecological collapse, urban erosion, social change, and entrenched cultural norms, their new works created specifically for this exhibition consider “regeneration” not simply as a process of rebuilding, but as a complex condition in which memory, loss, reimagination, and possibility remain intertwined.

Rather than offering definitive answers, the artists approach these questions through observation, introspection, and ambiguity. Their works propose contemporary art as a space where the contradictions of the present can remain open and transformation might become an evolving palimpsest of cyclical relations.

Participating artists: Zik Grishkyan, Tehmine Harutyunyan, Laura Khachatryan, Hrant Khekoyan, Gevorg Palanjyan, Christine Sargsyan, and Mariam Shahinyan.

Curated by Vigen Galstyan, Head of Exhibitions, National Gallery of Armenia.

Program Details

This exhibition is the graduation project of the intense training course aimed at strengthening the abilities of emerging artists. In the course of 3 months, artists from Yerevan and the regions attended seminars conducted by established specialists from Armenia and abroad and had the opportunity to develop their portfolio and artist statement, to learn the basics of art marketing, and to make numerous professional connections. The program is implemented with the support of the ArtNexus programme, which is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and managed by The Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
