“Say, and I’ll Tell You: Vahan Topchyan and Drawing” – Finissage and Catalogue Presentation

On September 11, at 7pm we invite you to the ICA Gallery to join the closing of Vahan Topchyan’s solo exhibition “Say, and I’ll Tell You: Vahan Topchyan and Drawing”․

In his introduction to the catalogue, the exhibition’s curator, Nazareth Karoyan writes:

“In his drawings, Topchyan seeks to activate the expressive capacities of the line through its “physical-structural” properties. Manifesting themselves on semantic, aesthetic, and psychological levels, these qualities—precision, plasticity, and vitality – allow the artist not only to articulate what he wishes to express, but also to discover the pitch and tonal register appropriate to that expression. At the same time, the deployment of these qualities serves more than a purely personal purpose. Through them, the artist enters into a dialogue with the voices resonating within Gyumri’s two public spheres – the physical and the discursive -expressing himself through the particular pitch and timbre of his own “inner voice,” whose measure and color he alone determines.”

The catalogue is produced by the Institute for Contemporary Art in cooperation with the Actual Art publishing house.
