The contemporary art field in Armenia has many gaps, especially in institutional terms, which is a serious problem for the development of the sector and Armenia’s cultural economy in general. The simple establishment of art institutions, however, cannot result in a systematic solution to issues of politics unless there exist other social and national components besides culture. This project is an attempt to consistently contribute to the institutional development of modern art in Armenia through the combination of the principles of cultural, social and national policies. The project proposes to establish and operate a contemporary art centre in Yerevan’s suburban Nubarashen community (administrative area), calling it after Poghos Nubar Pasha, a national/public figure, a prominent figure of Western Armenians at the beginning of the 20th century.
