Artist talk with David Paul Kay

ICA Yerevan is pleased to invite you to an artist talk with David Paul Kay, an American contemporary artist based in New York City, known for his intricate compositions and vibrant lines that turn blank surfaces into captivating narratives.

During his time at the NEST Art Residency, Kay will be creating a large-scale canvas work in his signature visual language, developed specifically in response to Armenian identity, culture, and atmosphere. The project is rooted in an intuitive, immersive process, drawing from lived experience in Yerevan as well as long-standing personal and ancestral connections to Armenia.

Besides discovering Kay’s creative process, we will have the opportunity to get acquainted with his artistic journey across the global art scene, beginning in New York City and extending to Paris, Dubai, London, and other international contexts. Kay will also discuss how working across different cultural landscapes has shaped his visual language, and how returning, both physically and conceptually, to Armenia informs this new body of work.

Originally hailing from Georgia, Kay is entirely self-taught, and his career truly took flight upon arriving in New York in 2009. With a meticulous attention to detail and a unique monochromatic style, he has created a substantial body of work that includes drawings, paintings, murals, and sculptures. Kay’s work has been exhibited and collected globally and he has collaborated with renowned brands such as Montblanc, PayPal, Cadillac, and Equinox. His art has graced the pages of Forbes, Architectural Digest, Vogue Italia, and Wallpaper.
