On January 31 at 5:00 PM, the Institute for Contemporary Art (47 Avet Avetisyan Street) will host the presentation of the research “Coverage of Culture and Art in Armenian Media.” The research was conducted by the Media Initiatives Center within the framework of the joint educational program “Art and Audience: Bridging the Gap,” implemented together with the ARé Foundation and the Institute for Contemporary Art.
The program is funded by a grant from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia.
About the Research
What is written, spoken, and discussed about art and culture in Armenian media is often described by artists and media professionals as incidental, superficial, and inert. From a quantitative perspective, during September–November 2025, five monitored media outlets published more than 600 pieces on art and culture over a three-month period. Of these, around 80% were event-based coverage without context or analysis, and approximately 40% were official or press-release-style texts.
As a result, art in the media appears primarily as an event, rather than as a story, dialogue, or discussion. The “Coverage of Culture and Art in Armenian Media” research examines and evaluates the volume, quality, and content of art coverage in several Armenian media outlets. Based on this analysis, it seeks to identify the key issues in art–media relations, their underlying causes, and possible solutions.
